Pharmacist Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

Pharmacist Sentenced for Insurance Fraud:

William Sadowski, who had already been sentenced to a federal prison for illegally distributing steroids, was given six to twelve months more time for insurance fraud. This scheme included the fabrication of insurance claims for nearly $1 million worth of prescription drugs that never reached patients. The sentence, will run concurrently with a federal prison sentence of 2 ½ years that was imposed in late February for Sadowski’s role in helping former Pittsburgh Steelers team doctor illegally distribute anabolic steroids and human growth hormones.

The state attorney General’s Office said Sadowski submitted more than $450,000 in false claims to the Pennsylvania Medicaid Program and private health insurance companies for medications supposedly given to patients at Allegheny Valley School. The school is a facility for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Doctors never authorized these prescriptions, and they were not dispensed to the residents at the school’s Pittsburgh and Harrisburg locations.

Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani is scheduled to sentence Eric Miladin on April 25th. Miladin was a 47 year old pharmacist that was employed by Sadowski at Servatus Pharmacy in Ross, Pa. He pleaded guilty to theft and conspiracy.

Prosecutors said Sadowski submitted $335,000 in false claims to Highmark Inc. as part of this insurance fraud scheme. With Miladi, he created fictitious prescriptions and used the names of inmates at Beaver County Jail to submit false claims for drug rebates.

William Sadowski apologized to his wife, Maria, 44, and their daughters, ages 13 and 8. “I know what I did was wrong,” he said. “I’m sorry. I just hope I can make it up to them some day.” He pleaded guilty in October to insurance fraud, conspiracy, and theft.
