Financial Broker Indicted on Wire Fraud Charges

Financial Broker Indicted on Wire Fraud Charges:

United States Attorney James Santelle announced that a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Lisa A. Lewis charging her with five counts of federal wire fraud. If convicted, Lewis faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release on each count.

According to the indictment, Lewis represented herself as an account representative and convinced at least thirteen elderly investors to create individual investment accounts. Without consent from the victims, Lewis transferred funds from the victim’s personal accounts to a joint account that she created under her name. Lewis then transferred the funds to her own accounts where she used the funds on personal expenses that were unrelated to the victim’s financial interest. One of the unauthorized expenditures of victim funds included the purchase of a new 2013 Chevrolet Camaro.

Court documents allege that the wire fraud scheme resulted in Lewis obtaining over $1,000,000 from investors.

Lewis made her initial court appearance on November 6, 2013 before District Court Judge William C. Griesbach. She was taken into custody after the hearing and is being held at Brown County Jail.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for January 13, 2014.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney William Roach is prosecuting the case on behalf the United States.
